Advisory Council

FarmShop’s Advisory Council plays a valuable role in guiding the evolution of Farmers’ Markets and the ICTFoodshed educational series. The Council provides a forum for new ideas, the review of Market Standards and Rules and Regulations; it helps create market-based compliance mechanisms and directives regarding our educational programs. Council members also assist in policy matters, act as community ambassadors and assist with program development; creating a powerful ecosystem for innovation and execution.

Composition of the Advisory Council:  

The council is made up of producers, consumers and area stakeholder organizations. The composition does not require an equal number of participants.

Minimum Council Member Requirements:  

  • Individuals, organizations and companies' interests must align with prioritized Market Standards emphasizing the importance of methods of production using processes and systems that are non-polluting, conserve non-renewable energy and natural resources, are economically efficient, safe for workers, communities and consumers, and do not compromise the needs of future generations.

Market Advisory Council Member Roles, and Responsibilities:

Roles and responsibilities of the Council may include, but not be limited to, the following: 

  • To consider future growth of the Markets.

  • Research and seek additional funding, including donations, grants, and other support. 

  • Encourage public participation in the Markets and FarmShop’s related events and programming.

  • To cooperate with other entities on matters regarding the Market, related events and programming.

  • To offer assistance, input and direction regarding programs, events, marketing and educational opportunities.  

Terms of Advisory Council:

  • Appointments are open-ended as long as both parties find value in the relationship.  

  • In person meetings will be held quarterly with most work being advanced through phone calls, email and a closed group Facebook page.  

  • Sub-committees may be appointed as deemed necessary. 

  • Compensation: No member of the Advisory Council, or any appointed subcommittee, shall receive compensation for his or her services as a Council Member.

  • Administration: The Advisory Council shall be responsible for taking any action necessary to carry out its purposes for projects as described above. FarmShop, LLC shall provide staff support to act as Staff Liaison and to prepare meeting information for the meetings and activities of the Advisory Council.
